We had a lot of fun traveling to Chicago to photograph Kevin and Stephanie’s wedding in her hometown. It was an average chilly December day for the wedding and we were able to do a some portion of the photos outside, thanks to the toughness of our super cool and easy to work with bride and groom. With the cloudy skies, it even reinforced the kind of cold, wintery feel of the wedding, which I think worked pretty well. The girls’ red flowers stood in great contrast to the colder surroundings and even had a holiday hint to them. Everything just looked good. The ceremony was early in the day, about a mile from where Stephanie grew up at St. Linus Catholic Church in Oak Lawn. From there we raced to beat the sunset (at 4:20!) to get some photos at Graue Mill on the way to the reception. The sun fell super quick and it probably was more like a 4:00 sunset because of the cloudy skies. Crazy! Fortunately we were able to shoot a few more photos outside the reception venue with the couple and their wedding party before we headed into the cocktail hour. I’m really pleased with the way these turned out and I just love nighttime photos when you’ve got interesting lights and textures to work with in the background. The reception was at the Drury Lane Theatre in Oakbrook and it was a terrific venue for Kevin and Stephanie’s top notch event. They had an amazing (must have been 34 course) dinner, wonderful toasts and the band Coax and Folks to keep people on the dance floor all night. Kevin and Stephanie, thank you guys for having us be a part of your killer day, and thank you for being so chill and easy to work with—you’re the best!
