Joe and Katie were had us along to photograph their wedding ceremony and reception at The Elms in Excelsior Springs in the middle of July. There’s no other way to start a conversation about this wedding than to discuss how incredibly hot and humid this day was. The day started off fine with temps in the mid 70s, but then it rained a little during the morning and that humidity didn’t really leave us. As skies cleared and temps rose into the mid 90s, the heat index reached epic levels. Seriously, epic. Each time we went outside, we had to wait 15 minutes to let our lenses defog because of the difference in climate, coming from the air conditioned indoors. It was crazy and frustrating! It even happened when we went out for some night photos at 10:30! It was amazing that the glass windows and doors throughout the whole building were completely fogged over and dripping with condensation. I’ve never seen anything like it! Now, on to what these photos are about—Joe and Katie had a beautiful wedding with family and friends, and they dealt with the previously laid out circumstances like champs. We worked as quickly as we could outside in the shade, and fortunately The Elms has beautiful grounds that provide perfect efficient options for photography. To their credit, Joe and Katie shrugged off the weather and some other minor hiccups in the details of the day and were able to focus on just enjoying themselves on their big day and the company of those they love. Thank you guys for choosing us to document your beautiful wedding, we wish you a lifetime of love and happiness together!
