Mike & Candace’s Cedar Rapids Marriott Wedding Pictures

October 26, 2016

I think Mike and Candace were one of the first people to actually hire us to be their wedding photographers once we had moved to our new Iowa digs. These are good people that do Iowa well, and it was great getting to know them through the engagement session and consultations. Their wedding day was full of laughter and tears, just as it should be. I mean, serious belly laughs, but only good looking cries. And some laughing that turned into crying. Their day started by getting ready at the Cedar Rapids Marriott where we photographed hair, makeup, details—all the preparations.

To be honest, Mike and Candace were lucky to even have their wedding ceremony take place, as St. Patrick’s Catholic Church was squarely in the potential flood zone for the elevated Cedar River water levels around downtown Cedar Rapids. The church moved its weekend services that were to take place only hours after their ceremony and there was mass sandbagging going on all around us. It was a bizarre scene. We heard several stories of couples that had to have their weddings moved that day, which I can’t even imagine.

Though we did get caught in a little traffic as roads were closing around us, the day generally went on without a hitch. Once we escaped the sandbagging war zone, we traveled back to the beautiful Cedar Rapids Marriott for the wedding reception and merriment. Good times were had by all. You’ll see. Mike and Candace, thank you guys so much for having us for your wedding day and giving us the chance to work in our new hometown!
