We paid our first visit to Barnes Place outside of Des Moines in Adel, Iowa for Devin and Stephanie’s wedding. Whoa! This is a gorgeous property with every detail really well thought-out. It really was a playground of sorts for us. The ceremony space is among the most beautiful that we have ever shot in. Nestled in the midst of a grove of trees, it had such an intimate, almost indoor feeling. The owners—Paula and Ernie—must go shopping constantly, because we were in awe of how many unique, vintage pieces they had throughout the property. What’s better is that you can use them to give your wedding your own unique statement. Devin and Stephanie used some peacock feathers and punches of turquoise to really add some vibrance to their palette. Oh yeah, the grounds are not to shabby at sunset either. Heart eyes emoticon.
We had some rain on the day of the wedding, but it stopped for good roughly 20 minutes before Devin and Stephanie’s first look before the wedding, so the day wasn’t really impacted at all. They were able to share a meaningful ceremony underneath the previously mentioned canopy of trees. Though they were able to keep it together themselves (barely), I saw several of the guests losing it as they pledged their love to one another. Neil, the officiant, happened to marry Stephanie’s mom and her late father 30 years ago, which certainly added to the ceremony’s sentiment. Another neat deal was that Stephanie actually wore her mom’s wedding dress! There were some modifications made to the sleeves and the back, but how awesome to be able to wear a such a family heirloom . . . and look amazing doing it!
After the ceremony was over, the party moved into the spacious barn for a night of dinner and dancing. It was a great day to shoot and be a part of! Devin and Stephanie, thank you guys for having us document your big day! May you guys be blessed in your marriage together. And go Cyclones, am I right??
