Max and Allison knew what they were signing up for when they chose a November wedding date, so you didn’t hear them complaining when a fierce north wind took already chilly temperatures and kept sending them lower throughout the day. I think they were more just pleased that we didn’t see the precipitation that was forecasted throughout the week! All that said, it. was. cold. We took a few photos outside (in between several warm-up breaks) just to take advantage of the beautiful environment that Cedar Ridge offers, and I’m so glad they were on board with that! I have absolutely loved the weddings that we have shot out at Cedar Ridge. The staff is so helpful, kind and just good at what they do. There is just a different laid back vibe about the place that I totally dig. And as I had already mentioned, it’s just beautiful out there, even in November after most of the leaves have given up for the year. We started the day shooting hair and makeup at Thompson & Company in Iowa City. Afterward we traveled up to Cedar Ridge where they had both their ceremony and reception. The ceremony started around dusk, and it looked beautiful with the bistro lights that were strung to the outdoor pergola. I’m afraid it didn’t feel as good as it looked, however! Pain (cold) is temporary, right?? 🙂 The reception featured warmth, some gourmet pizzas, heartfelt toasts, a Whitey’s ice cream bar and some mediocre dance moves. It was a great day to document and it was beautiful to see the love between Max and Allison no matter the conditions!
