Matt and Mackenzie have a similar story to us, in that they were both originally from SE Iowa, and then moved to Kansas City after college. They were looking at having their wedding in Kansas City, but ultimately chose to do something totally different, instead opting to have the festivities closer to “home” on a family farm in West Point, Iowa. The result was something so much more fun and unique (and also convenient for their attending guests). The private residence wedding plan required more effort, and I know it was an emotional roller coaster, but it was an awesome day to be a part of! Their plan almost looked disastrous as the week unfolded. For days, a very unkind weather forecast showed an 80% chance of thunderstorms on the hour of their ceremony . . . just like apparently every wedding we are supposed to shoot this year. They had the tent up, along with tables and linens set in advance, but some morning thunderstorms sent them all crashing down, along with Mackenzie’s spirits. Fortunately, those storms passed through by around 10:00 A.M., and the chance of afternoon thunderstorms continued to dwindle from then on . . . just like seemingly every wedding we have shot this year. Seriously, I’m so disappointed in the unnecessary anxiety due to the inaccuracy of my weather app this year! We experienced a couple sprinkles after the ceremony, and it was a little breezy, but it turned out to be an absolutely perfect evening for an outdoor wedding. I loved the ambiance of the tented reception and it was easy to see that everyone was having a great time . . . including the kids in a giant dinosaur bounce house. It was awesome! They hired the band KC FLO to bring a piece of Kansas City to their SE Iowa wedding, and they kept the dance floor full all night. I loved this day, and I love that these guys chose to do something so different. Matt and Mackenzie, thank you for having us along to document your ridiculously awesome wedding. You guys are wonderful and we wish you all the best in your married life together . . . and eventual relocation back to Iowa, right? 😉 It’s all part of the story in our case, right? I can’t wait to share the rest of these photos with you guys!
