Derek & Jaymie’s Hotel Kirkwood Wedding Pictures

“We interrupt football season to bring you this wedding.” Derek and Jaymie had an absolutely beautiful wedding day, with joy and laughter in abundance. It was awesome. And it better have been awesome, since they asked so many of their Iowa Hawkeye friends and family to attend their wedding instead of witnessing the Iowa-Iowa State game that was kicking off right around the same time they kicked off their married life together! 🙂 It was basically 70 degrees all day (which is too cold for Kara), with some light cloud cover. Though the initial 10-day forecast came out with rain every single day for the wedding week, that storm system moved out and not only gave them a most pleasant wedding day, but also allowed the earth to dry out enough that we could walk anywhere without concern of it being swampland. Save for a short bus trip downtown, we spent the whole day Hotel at Kirkwood, where the couple got ready, had their ceremony and celebrated at their reception. The Hotel Kirkwood space and grounds suit our style really well, and I love the sophisticated and modern vibes that you can get while shooting there, so staying in one place all day is actually a very good thing in this case. Insert a fun wedding party and a couple that loves to laugh, and you’ve got exactly what we’re going for—creative, yet relaxed portraits of people having a good time. Beyond just the portraits though, there were so many real moments to photograph that came from their meaningful ceremony, the epic toasts and their spotlight dances at the reception.
