Abbie and Mikael’s wedding day was very chill despite having so many not chill circumstances! The ceremony and reception were both at Hillside Event Center outside of Dubuque and Peosta. The original plan was to have the ceremony outside, but gusty winds in the country are never good for wedding hairstyles or veils, so they moved the ceremony inside for the comfort of everyone involved. We were fortunate to get most of the main activities of the day knocked out before a pretty legit wave of storms rolled through in the evening, not long after the ceremony. We were scrambling around in the raindrops at the start of the storm, taking a few photos that we didn’t have the opportunity to get done before the ceremony since it was so windy!
One of the most important things happening outside before the storm was the Amos Dean’s food truck. Wow! They catered in some of the best food we’ve enjoyed during a wedding day, and it was awesome that the guests got to enjoy the full food truck experience.
Things got a little muddy as we got deeper into the reception, including a vicious AC/DC Thunderstruck drinking game that got the best of Abbie. That basically coincided with the sudden appearance of a multitude wedding guests suddenly dressed in strange, decorative jumpsuits. Kara and I looked at each other like, “Ohhhhh boy, what’s going on here??” (It sounds like these are summer RAGBRAI get-ups that the group wears to look and feel awesome.) Then, a couple days after the wedding, Mikael posts to Facebook – “Anyone from our wedding missing a Samsung phone? Abbie’s dad found one in a puddle.” Yeah, it was a little muddy.
Abbie and Mikael, thank you guys for always keeping things light and cool throughout the day. It was a pleasure to partner with you guys and we appreciate you choosing to have us be a part of your day!
