Connor and Crissie are two of the most chill people you will meet, and it was a pleasure to document their wedding day amongst their family and friends. Crissie may not declare herself “chill” all the time, because she admitted on the wedding day that her brain was fried from the week of preparations, so I can’t be 100% sure who the real Crissie is.
We started their day with getting preparations in the beautiful and photogenic confines of had their wedding ceremony at All Saints Catholic Church basement. It really is a beautiful church, but with makeup and other touchups happening between an old island and a 1980s electric stovetop, which all happened to be directly underneath a fluorescent ceiling light, you’ve got to get creative. 🙂 Thanks to some coffee pitchers, I we had some fun creating some photos that I’m actually proud of. The church itself is a wonderful space to shoot in with its round sanctuary design. It was a nice ceremony that highlighted their relationship and Crissie’s apparent wizardry of concocting great mashed potatoes. Afterward, we had time scheduled to change locations and shoot some wedding party photos. But with storm clouds and the radar looking super ominous, we called an audible and stayed around the church to get as many outdoor photos as possible while the storm made its approach. Aaaaand then the storm dissipated and we didn’t get anything more than some uncomfortable humidity! Connor, Crissie and their wedding party were super cool (not necessarily temperature-wise) and easy going as we tried to navigate the weather issues, and that makes our lives so much easier! We changed locations for the last 10-15 minutes and then headed to the Cedar Rapids Marriott for their wedding reception.
The Marriott always serves a wonderful dinner, and then toward the end of dinner, there were some heartfelt and funny toasts/roasts. Eventually, the reception basically turned into a (kid friendly), 90s rave, with all sorts of bright lights, glowing merchandise and NSYNC on blast. (I hear they’re “talking” about a reunion, BTW). Kids were kung fu fighting with their glow sticks and sensory overload was enjoyed by all!
Connor and Crissie, thank you guys for choosing to have us be a part of your wedding day! Your patience and easy-going nature made you guys a delight to partner with. We hope you enjoy this small snippet and we’ll have plenty more to share with you soon!
