It’s nice that Halloween is now the unofficial start of winter, right? We spent the first part of winter last weekend in southeast Iowa for Scott and Kayla’s early November wedding. The ceremony was at St Mary’s Catholic Church is West Point, Iowa, and that is where Scott and Kayla finished getting ready. There was crying that happened before any first looks, so you knew the emotion was going to be rich throughout the day. After getting dressed, Kayla was able to get some tears out of both her dad and Scott during their first looks before the ceremony. As I mentioned, it was not the warmest day of the year on their wedding day, but we still did most of the day’s photos outdoors. I especially appreciate Kayla and all her girls’ tenacity in helping to give us the best opportunity to succeed with these photos! I’m just so grateful when photos are a priority for the couples that we partner with, and it encourages us to work even harder to deliver great images. As we moved on to the ceremony, their vast number of guests started to pack St Mary’s to see if Scott would cry as Kayla walked down the aisle. Nah, everyone already knew he would. What I love about Scott from getting to know him the past several months is that he is completely comfortable in his own skin, and he is not afraid to be who he is. He is real and authentic, and when he was overwhelmed with tears throughout the day, you could tell how much everything meant to him. Love that.
We traveled to Scott’s family property after the ceremony for photos with the wedding party and some bride and groom portraits. We had some fun with them there. A long bus ride on the Hawkeye Express gave the already crazy wedding party plenty of time to celebrate with some post-ceremony spirits and they were indeed quite spirited by the time we headed to the reception! The wedding reception was at the Pzazz in Burlington, Iowa. As packed as the church was earlier, they invited even more people to celebrate with them there. We stayed a good while into the reception, and there were still a LOT of people that were hanging out and having a good time. The dance floor stayed busy all night too. It was a great day that was a lot of fun to shoot, even if winter decided to come early.
Scott and Kayla, once again we appreciate how much these photos mean to you. Thank you for being real and for trusting us with the job of capturing everything that happened throughout the day! We hope that these photos help you cherish the memories of your great day for years and years to come! (And there’s waaaayy more that I still have to share with you).
