Chugging through our busy November, we had the privilege of joining Scott and Kari for their beautiful and emotional wedding day at Ushers Ferry on the west side of Cedar Rapids. It felt like a perfect setting for a winter-ish wedding with its lodge-like feel and the snow that was lingering around outside. They built a nice palette as well, with the navy suits and dresses that were accented by golds and rich jewel tones. It was very tastefully put together. I asked Scott as we were preparing for the first look if he was nervous, and he replied something like, “No, everything about the day has seemed so perfect and right.” That was pretty beautiful. These two love the Lord, and it’s always an encouragement for us to see people live out their lives in peace and confidence. Scott also knew he was a lucky and blessed man on this day. 🙂
After their emotional first look, we activated the hand and toe warmers and headed outdoors for some bride and groom portraits and wedding party photos. It was what you might consider a typical November day weather-wise, so it was not exactly sleeveless dress weather. We worked as quickly as we could in the natural areas that surrounded the lodge. Kari was such a trooper, and would have probably kept going for another 20 minutes if we had only asked her to! She was all about that fireplace inside during the breaks . . . and so was Kara, of course. The fireplace served as an altar of sorts for the ceremony, where Scott and Kari exchanged rings and pledged their love and faithfulness to one another. There were tears, but everyone knew that this was a day and a covenant that was being entered into with great reverence and great joy.
After the ceremony, Kari was up for a few more goosebumps and we took advantage of another beautiful Iowa sunset. The ground had become pretty saturated by that point and I made a mess of myself, getting my pants and jacket all muddy from rolling around on the ground, trying to get that unique perspective. Anything for the shot! Dinner, cake and dancing were on tap next as everyone joined in the celebration.
Scott and Kari, we are very happy for you guys. Thank you so much for choosing to have us be a part of your wedding day! We wish a lifetime of love and happiness together, and hope that you will always remember this day as being perfect and right.
