Noah and Maddie have a flair for the dramatic and enjoy tugging on people’s emotions. They are both big into theater, of course. Their wedding day was no different. They enjoyed a perfect day (barely) at the Celebration Farm this weekend. They were blessed to have the rain hold off for the entire day despite some long odds of that being the case. I guess raindrops are their preferred sleep sound, which they were probably able to enjoy the authentic sounds of later that night.
We started the day with the girls getting ready at the Homewood Suites in Coralville’s River Landing district. In addition to her dress, Maddie said, “Yes” to a frou frou coffee in the morning. As we entered the room, one of the first things she mentioned to us was that she had a full-on case of the coffee jitters. Come to think of it, she was awfully chatty that morning.
As she put on the dress, her dad was patiently waiting to see her in it for the first time. When he turned around to see her, it was the first of many teary eyed moments that we got to capture on this day. All that work on makeup, and then Maddie just went and cried all over it! Fortunately, with the professional application and setting spray, no makeup damage was done. 😄
We then headed out to the Celebration Farm, where the wedding ceremony and reception would take place. Considering both events would take place at the same venue, Noah and Maddie made the choice to do a first look before the wedding and knock out most of the photos before guests arrived. Noah was pleased with his bride, and maybe let a few expletives slip when seeing Maddie for the first time.
Their ceremony was a 5:00 “theater start”, which I think meant they could start whenever they wanted. 🙂 Maddie’s brother, Bryce, was the officiant for the wedding. They incorporated a hand fasting ritual into the ceremony as a nod to Maddie’s Scottish family heritage. Toward the end, the thing that everyone commented on afterward were the personal vows they wrote for each other. They made each other cry, and they made almost everyone in attendance cry. I’m such a fan of writing your vows and taking the time to personally express your commitment.
They had a unique (and bomb) dinner for their guests—breakfast . . . for dinner. I enjoy when couples don’t feel like they have to follow an exact script, and instead make choices that incorporate things they love into their day. Both of their families love B for D, so it made sense for them to share that meal with their families on their biggest day.
Speaking of not following scripts, or maybe following them in this case, Noah and Maddie performed a choreographed first dance that was dramatic and easily the most photogenic first dance I’ve been able to capture. Instead of spinning slowly in a circle, they whooshed and spun and dipped and stretched, perfectly in sync with the music and each other. This was the last tear jerking moment of the evening that we witnessed, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they had other surprises up their sleeves.
We finished the night with some epic nighttime shots since there wasn’t a sunset to be had. They were still dramatic and awesome!
